Our vision is to use our concept of 'Nurturing with nature' to succeed in achieving its aims,

  1. The reintegration into society of ex armed forces personnel, those from the NEET group, particularly long-term unemployed younger people and ex-offenders.

  2. Our biodiversity aim of rescuing the honey bee and other pollinators.

Our priority is to get our work with our three priority groups up and running through the establishment of our Woodwise training course, an accredited programme that includes woodworking activities, health and safety and first aid. We will adopt an integrated approach, combining training and mentoring support that will develop new skills, increase confidence and self esteem, enhance future employment opportunities for participants and help these individuals re-engage within their communities.

External research confirms  that re-offending has a huge impact on society both in human and financial terms. The Bromley Report 2012 highlights that recorded crime committed by ex offenders costs at least 11 billion per year, a re-offending ex prisoner costs the criminal justice system an average of £65,000 and it costs £37,000 per year to keep a person in prison. Bromley emphasises the importance of effective education and training programmes to break this cycle of re-offending.
Despite some upturn in the economy, large numbers (954,000) of young people still struggle,  16-24 year olds in the NEET Group according to government figures in November 2014, with the West Midlands having the third highest percentage in the UK (17.2%).

Kings College London have undertaken a 15 year research project on the health of those retiring from the armed forces, highlighting high numbers with mental health issues including depression, alcohol dependency, drug misuse and aggressive behaviour. Our project and the opportunities it will provide will play a small part in addressing these important issues locally.
